How to make Potato Chips in Microwave ~ Step by Step Recipe

I knew this has to come out sooner or later. I have made homemade Potato chips or wafers in both the regular method and baked. Only method left was microwaving. I knew I had to post that version also. When Finla was raving about her new found love for chips she made in microwave, I knew the battle was lost.

Still I have been wanting to bake these for a week now. Only this morning having decided that I must make it or leave it. Baked it I did, and had a bad rush to work as well.

So you really got to excuse my lack of pretty pictures for the microwave potato chips, definitely not as pretty as Finla's anyways.

I wanted to bake these for Konda's lunch box as I packed Lemon Rice for their lunch. I baked these and did a roast as well, fearing what if she found the wafers turned out to be soggy by afternoon. I need not have feared as I just completed the pack I did in the morning. Those chips were still crispy.

Of course the crispiness you get when you deep fry the potato chips, is a completely different ball game. When you either oven bake or microwave bake, you do get a crispy chip, albeit a wee bit tasting different.

Naturally if you want to stick to your half a teaspoon of oil for cooking, I will surely advise you to either oven bake or microwave baked! And of course this is surely not the quickest method, however you are those for whom chips are off limits, this is something you can dig in without much guilt.

After making mine, I came across this post which also has beautiful pictures and useful points on making potato chips in microwave

Oven Baked Potato Chips
Deep Fried Potato Chips

Step by Step Picture Recipe

Ingredients Needed:

1 big Potatoes, washed
2 to 3 tsps of cooking oil
Salt according to your taste
Red chili powder as per your taste

How to make Potato Chips in Microwave
Using a slicer, slice into very thin rounds. Mine is pretty good and gets very thin ones. Else you can use a mandolin for thin slices.

Wash the potato slices in water and spread on a towel to drain them.

When the chips are dry, toss them in oil and season with salt.

In a microwave safe plate, spread them, making sure they don't overlap, microwave for 3 mins.

when done, flip the chips and again microwave for 3 mins.

Overall it took me about 6 - 7 mins for each batch.

When these done, they still remain soft, allow it to cool down for them to turn very crispy.
These were really very crispy even after 12 hours, and you can indulge as much as you want!

Microwave Eggless Biscuit Brownie Recipe - Step by Step

I know I am very late for making up for my own event, the Microwave Easy Cooking Event. So thought I might do some quick dessert as that's one dish that can disappear before I can even take a proper pictures of them and I need not worry about calories for myself!

I managed to find time for this quick and simple Brownie that's made with Marie Biscuits. All this required was about 5 mins of preparation and about 5 mins of microwave baking. Since I was baking after a long time, the kids were delighted. And if you can imagine the entire brownie disappeared after flat 10 mins, you can understand how much they loved this brownie.

This month's edition is hosted by Pradnya.
Also sending to Smitha, who is hosting my Kid's Delight Event, themed on What Kids Love...For Summer!

Microwave 5 min Brownie
 Step by Step Recipe

Eggless Microwave Biscuit Brownie | 5 Min Biscuit Brownie
Makes : 20 small pieces

Ingredients Needed:

Marie Biscuits - 10
Condensed Milk - 3 tbsp
Icing Sugar - 3 tsp
Baking Chocolate - 50 - 60 gms
Milk - 1/2 cup
Almond Cashew powder - 2 tsp

How to make the Brownie

Roughly chop the baking chocolates and melt in microwave for 1 -2 mins in a microwave bowl, depending on how hard they are. I had mine melted at 2 mins. But take care not to char them.

Run the Marie Biscuits in a mixie and powder it fine.

To the melted chocolate, add the powdered biscuits. Mix well.

Then add the condensed milk, combine and follow it by the icing sugar.

Next add milk slowly, making sure you combine everything without any lumps.

The amount of milk depends on the thickness of the batter. We want free flowing batter.

Finally add the almond cashew powder and combine.

Grease a microwave bowl, pour into the bowl and microwave for 4 mins.

Mine was done by 4 mins. Allow it to stand for a minute and turn to a plate.

Microwave 5 Min Biscuit Brownie
I used a tupperware microwave bowl. And since I didn't have a square bowl, had to make do with a circle one. I know we have such preconceived thought for a brownie to be always square bars!

Enjoy your quick treat.

Vegetarian Hakka Noodles | Hakka Vegetable Noodles Microwave Recipe | Step by Step Recipe

Veg Hakka Noodles is one of those Indo Chinese Recipes that is so popular all over the place. Hakka Noodles will always find itself in all buffets and liked by almost everybody. The first time I made this was during my college days and Amma always says I make it well. The one incident that always comes to mind will be the time I made this for Konda. I made without any vegetables and back home, she was saying that I don't know how to make it, as good as Ammamma. Amma was saying I always make it better than her. What I finally understood was that Konda loves the vegetables with the noodles and that really made me happy as she will get to eat the vegetables.

We end up making this noodles for evening snack as Daddy also likes it a lot. So I decided I will pack noodles for Konda's lunch and for Daddy's breakfast. Knowing that my entry for this month's MEC is due, I decided to make the noodles in Microwave. To be quite frank, making the hakka noodles on stove top is much more easy and quick. So make sure she doesn't miss her van, I removed half for making the noodles for Konda, quickly made it on the stove top, then made the rest in microwave for Daddy.

Konda was so happy that she got the noodles for lunch and wanted me to make it again. I know I should be having this as a regular item.

Step By Step Recipe

Microwave Vegetable Hakka Noodles

Ingredients Needed:

Hakka Noodles - 1 packet
Onions - 1 medium
Carrot, Beans, Cabbage, Capsicum - 1 cup
Soya Sauce - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Pepper powder - 1 tsp
Oil - 2 -3 tsp

How to make the Noodles in Microwave

In a microwave safe bowl, take water twice the amount to fill up the noodles, microwave for 8 mins. By this time the noodles was cooked well. Drain this over a colander, run this twice in cold water, add oil and mix well. This prevents it from sticking together.

Then microwave the chopped vegetables for 10 mins. Once done, drain the water. In a microwave bowl, add 1 tsp oil, saute the onions for 2 mins. Then add the boiled vegetables for a min. Once done, add the boiled noodles, salt and pepper powder, mix well. Microwave again for 2 mins.

Serve with tomato ketchup.

Notes:

Use the water from boiled vegetables in sambar. Always add the salt in the final stage for the noodles to get cooked well.

Microwave Potato Roast | Urulai Kizhangu Varuval | Step by Step Recipe

During school days deciding to send dishes like Sambar Rice or Rasam Rice, is not only filling, also convenient for your own cooking menu. I try to send Sambar or Rasam Rice for the kids. For Konda, it's always a side dish of potato roast. As such making a roast with just one big potato for her is easy enough. I simply microwave the washed and slit potatoes for 6 mins, immerse in water and peel to roast it.
But the other day I was even more hard pressed for time, I thought a simpler way of roasting it in microwave will be handy. So this simple method proved very helpful. You simply don't have to worry about the potatoes getting burnt.

It's been a long weekend for the boys as they had a cultural program. I didn't think I was up to getting them practice or dress up with a different costume. So for the non participants they had the day off. Just imagine 4 long days of holidays. They couldn't find enough games to keep them occupied.

Another week will start and I got to plan well for the rush days to come. Do try this when you are hard pressed for time or simply to make other things.

Wash and make slits on the potatoes. Microwave for 6 mins. Immerse in water and peel the skin off.

In a microwave safe bowl, add red chili powder, turmeric powder and salt, 1 tsp of oil. Mix well.
Cube the potatoes into smaller ones, mix with the masala. Microwave for 1 min, if you want it more crispy, micro for another 30 secs.
Makes a great combo with Sambar/ Rasam Rice.

Sending this to Monika who is guest hosting the MEC themed on Potatoes this month.
