Microwave Potato Roast | Urulai Kizhangu Varuval | Step by Step Recipe

During school days deciding to send dishes like Sambar Rice or Rasam Rice, is not only filling, also convenient for your own cooking menu. I try to send Sambar or Rasam Rice for the kids. For Konda, it's always a side dish of potato roast. As such making a roast with just one big potato for her is easy enough. I simply microwave the washed and slit potatoes for 6 mins, immerse in water and peel to roast it.
But the other day I was even more hard pressed for time, I thought a simpler way of roasting it in microwave will be handy. So this simple method proved very helpful. You simply don't have to worry about the potatoes getting burnt.

It's been a long weekend for the boys as they had a cultural program. I didn't think I was up to getting them practice or dress up with a different costume. So for the non participants they had the day off. Just imagine 4 long days of holidays. They couldn't find enough games to keep them occupied.

Another week will start and I got to plan well for the rush days to come. Do try this when you are hard pressed for time or simply to make other things.

Wash and make slits on the potatoes. Microwave for 6 mins. Immerse in water and peel the skin off.

In a microwave safe bowl, add red chili powder, turmeric powder and salt, 1 tsp of oil. Mix well.
Cube the potatoes into smaller ones, mix with the masala. Microwave for 1 min, if you want it more crispy, micro for another 30 secs.
Makes a great combo with Sambar/ Rasam Rice.

Sending this to Monika who is guest hosting the MEC themed on Potatoes this month.

Microwave Beans Paruppu Usli | Step by Step Recipes

Happy Sri Rama Navami to all my readers!

Panakam and Vada pappu are the Neivedyam that I made for today. Please check last year's Srirama Navami Pooja for the recipes.

Beans Paruppu Usili is one of my favorite poriyals that gets featured much in Tamil weddings. I make this poriyal in couple of different ways. Making it in Microwave was quite easy and you can spend your time doing something else.

Traditionally you steam the lentils before grating them. That version will follow suit. For today you can enjoy the microwave version.

Lataji wanted us to make a lunch box menu using Microwave for Microwave Easy Cooking event that she is guest hosting. And I am delighted to send her this dish.

Step by Step pictures

Bengal gram dal soaked, and to be ground with red chilies
 Ground dals
Finely chopped beans microwaved at 6 mins
Heat 1 tsp of oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and micro for 1 min. then add the ground paste and micro for 3 - 4 mins
End of the cooking time, it has to appear well done, check and keep it for another minute if required.
Add the cooked beans to the dal and microwave for another 2 mins.

Mix well and it's all done.
Since I wanted it to come out very dry, I used the tray and spread it over it and microwaved for a minute. Though this is metal, for a minute using it is not a problem.

Beans, finely chopped - 2 cups
Bengal gram - 1 cup
Salt to taste
Red Chilies - 3-4 nos
Mustard Seeds, Urad dal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 3-4

Microwave Potato Peas Roast | Step by Step Recipe

Taking up the Blogging Marathon, I am exhausted to find even a moment for anything else. Not that I am complaining. But I got this space to cater too and in the process seem to have forgotten to update. Evenings are becoming hectic as I have to prepare the planned dish for the marathon and with kids around it becomes extremely difficult.
Because I decided until 15th it is going to be something with chocolates, they are naturally very interested. Like I made the chocolates at home, though this may not compete with the popular brands at store, it still gives a great feeling of happiness. More than anything Konda was so happy knowing that I could make something like that.

Boys were after me waiting to be given a taste of what was getting cooked. I strictly told them that it has to set if they want to eat it as a piece than as a fudge or sauce. They were content to lick the bowl clean.

Coming to today's post, these potato roast is a simple yet great one to get it done in microwave without much hassle. Since Indrani has asked us to make Combo Meal, I was determined that I will make at least 3 dishes as a thali.

It will become very cooked like this.

Make marks on the potatoes and micro for 10 mins for the skin to peel off.
